Six little plants perch atop the granite island in the kitchen. All of various kinds – from marigolds to rose moss – their little flower heads peek above the striated shades of green leaves and stems. Squares of cellophane and a rainbow of pastel tissue sheets are carefully drawn around each, tied with a white satin bow and labeled with a paper name, letters welded together by Cricut – my paper cutting device – and hot glued to a wooden skewer. All completed, they are my gift and table favors for tomorrow’s Mother’s Day Celebration Dinner. Cheerful and festive, they are packed into a box for transport. Nothing says love like a flower, I think – and these tiny buds will be distributed in that spirit- small token of affection and appreciation to the mothers gathered for yet another Mother’s Day - 2009.

Nothing Says Love Like Flowers
