Memorial Day Observed

Blog 145 – Monday, May 25, 2009 Sunny and hot during the day but, late in the night – it poured! Temperatures were in the 80’s.
Today is the observance of Memorial Day, formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates United States men and women who have fallen while in the military services. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War, the holiday was expanded after World War I to include American Casualties of any war or military action. Hanging our flag and wearing patriotic colors, dinner was eaten at red, white and blue place settings with a festive, patriotic centerpiece. We ended our day with a family portrait as we stood in front of Old Glory and before a camera on a tripod all wearing various red and blue shirts. Comfortable, safe, and enjoying family and friends – we spent a wonderful day made possible by the men and women who protect us each and every day in America. God Bless America and thank you, Lord for our military.
